There are three main ways to do it. The gap between public and private gets bigger the further away the island is. The Supetar ferry runs so often that missing one sailing costs you little time. But Bol has a summer-only catamaran and Vis has fewer sailings, so there is much less room for error. Split itself is much further away. So it makes sense to treat Trogir as your real starting point, not as an afterthought. But with a private boat, a pickup near Trogir or at a marina close to the airport cuts out the Split-port leg completely. No shuttle, no taxi queue, straight out to sea.
