By the Dalmatia Express crew — skippers who run Split–island routes every day, 24/7. Updated October 2026.

A boat day does not have to mean a long sea crossing. West of Split you can visit two easy places. Trogir is a UNESCO World Heritage old town built on a small island. The Blue Lagoon (Krknjaši) is a shallow bay near Drvenik Veli island, with clear water over white sand. Each trip from Split takes 20 to 40 minutes. Together they make a perfect half-day or full-day trip.

Sommario
The lagoon is beautiful, and almost every group tour from Split goes there. This is the same crowding problem as on the Percorso della Grotta Blu (a famous sea cave near Vis island). Between 11:00 and 15:00 in August, about thirty boats share the bay.

The fix is simple: go before 10:30 or after 16:00. Then only a few sailboats are there. Group tours cannot change their time. A private boat can.

A sandbar between Drvenik Veli and the small island of Krknjaš keeps the water waist-deep and very clear. It is rare to see white sand in Dalmatia, where most beaches are pebbles and rock. Snorkelling is easy and safe for children. Bring masks, because the sea grass holds more life than you expect.

Trogir is a small town with narrow stone streets. Here is what to see:

Walk slowly around the town. Then have lunch, for example čevapi (grilled minced meat). Arriving by boat is easy: you stop at the old-town seafront promenade (called the riva) and do not need to find parking. If you have a third hour, climb the cathedral bell tower. You can see the lagoon and the mountains from the top. Then have a coffee on the riva and watch the yachts pass under the Čiovo bridge (Čiovo is the island next to Trogir).
