What Is Supetar?

Supetar is the biggest town on Brač island. About 3,500 people live there. Brač is the third-largest island in Croatia. It sits close to Split, across a strip of sea called the Brač Channel.

Supetar is the main gateway to Brač. Most ferries from the mainland stop here first. The town is also the administrative and shopping center of the island. It has more hotels, shops, and restaurants than any other town on Brač.

The town has a long history. Its parish church dates from the 18th century. Near the town cemetery, you can still see remains from Roman times. Supetar also has good beaches close to the town center, so you do not need a car to reach the sea.

From Supetar, roads and buses connect to the rest of Brač. The mountain Vidova Gora is the highest point on any Croatian island, at 780 meters. The Jadrolinija Car Ferry: Split to Supetar

Jadrolinija is Croatia’s national ferry company. Its car ferry on this route is line 631. The crossing takes about 50 minutes. This is the classic way to travel from Split to Supetar, and it is the only public option that carries cars.

How often it runs: summer vs winter

From 2026, Jadrolinija uses only two seasons on this route: high season and low season. There is no separate mid-season timetable anymore.

In high season (1 June to 30 September), the ferry runs up to 14 times a day in each direction. The first sailing leaves Split at about 05:00. The last one leaves close to midnight, around 23:59. In low season, the ferry runs about 10 to 12 times a day, and some early sailings skip Sundays and public holidays.

Since October 2025, a fast Krilo catamaran also runs this route. It carries foot passengers only and takes just 20 minutes. It is a good choice if you have no car and want the quickest public option.

2026 prices per person and per car

Prices change a little with the season. As a guide for 2026:

• Adult foot passenger: about €4.50 (low season) to €6.50 (high season)
• Child, 3 to 12 years: about €2.20 to €3.20
• Standard car, under 5 meters: about €18.20 to €26.10
• Bicycle: about €4.30 to €6.20
• Fast Krilo catamaran, foot passengers only: about €10, all year

Where the ferry leaves from in Split

All ferries to Supetar leave from the main Split ferry port, next to the old town and the Riva waterfront. The port has many numbered berths, or docking spots, for different island routes.

The Supetar ferry usually leaves from berth 21 or 23, on the south side of the terminal building. But the exact berth can change from day to day. Always check the electronic departure boards at the port. You can also check the live screen on the Jadrolinija website. Confirm your berth before you walk or drive down.

Boarding, luggage, and getting there early

If you travel on foot, you can usually walk on board just a few minutes before departure. If you travel by car, plan to arrive 45 to 60 minutes early in summer. Cars board in the order they arrive at the port, so early cars get on first. Boarding for cars usually starts about 15 minutes before departure.

Foot passengers can carry normal luggage on board, up to 100 kg per person. If you travel by car, you can leave bigger bags in the car on the vehicle deck. If you arrive early and want to see the Riva first, there is also luggage storage at the ferry terminal.

What Happens in Bad Weather?

The Adriatic Sea can get rough, especially from autumn to spring. The strong north-east wind, called the bura, is the main cause of delays and cancellations on this route.

The big car ferries are built for rough seas. They keep running in conditions that stop smaller, faster boats. The fast Krilo catamaran is lighter, so it is usually the first service to cancel in a strong bura or jugo, a wind from the south.

Yes. Supetar works well as a half-day or full-day trip from Split. The crossing is short, the port is close to the town center, and you can walk to beaches, cafes, and shops right off the ferry.
