Getting from Split Airport to the islands always means two trips, not one. The reason is simple: Split Airport (airport code SPU) is not in Split. It is in Resnik, a small place next to Kaštela, about 25 km from the ferry port in Split. It is only a few minutes from Trogir, a small historic town on the coast. It does not matter which island you want to reach. Split Airport to Hvar, Brač or Vis all follow the same pattern. First you need to reach a port. Only then can a ferry, a catamaran or a private boat take you to the island. If you miss that first step, or plan it badly, your whole day can go wrong. Dotarcie z lotniska do portu: Twoje opcje

Whichever island you want, you first need to cross the 25 km between the runway and the water. There are three main ways to do it. Each one has a different mix of time, cost and stress.

Autobus wahadłowy na lotnisko. In 2026 the official shuttle bus to Split is run by a company called Platanus. It took over the route from the previous operator earlier this year. The bus goes to the main bus station in Split, which is directly opposite the ferry port. It leaves about 30 minutes after each flight lands, day and night. The price is about €10 one way or €15 return. The ride takes about 30 minutes. Most solo travellers and couples use this bus, because it drops you a short walk from the catamaran quay. Check the current timetable and price before you fly. Shuttle prices and times can change between seasons.

Lokalny autobus publiczny. City bus line 37 also runs from the airport into Split for about €3. It is slower — around 45 to 50 minutes — because it stops in many places on the way. It is by far the cheapest option. But it is a poor choice if you have little time before your ferry.

Taksówka lub transfer zarezerwowany wcześniej. A metered taxi to the ferry port in Split usually costs €40–65 and takes 30–40 minutes. There is an official price list at arrivals, but taxis use the meter, so treat any figure as a guide. A taxi to Trogir is much cheaper and quicker — about €15–30 for 10–15 minutes. This matters if Trogir is your real starting point (more on this below). A pre-booked transfer costs a little more than a taxi, but it removes the guesswork when your connection is tight.

A few things stand out. The airport-to-port leg adds a fixed 30–40 minutes to every public journey, whatever the island. You cannot avoid this time unless you go direct by boat. The gap between public and private gets bigger the further away the island is. Vis and Korčula are where a private transfer saves the most hours, because the public ferry options are simply long. Frequency matters as much as speed. The Supetar ferry runs so often that missing one sailing costs you little time. But Bol has a summer-only catamaran and Vis has fewer sailings, so there is much less room for error. For a group of four to six sharing the cost, a private boat to Šolta or Brač is often close in price. It can cost about the same as all the shuttle tickets and ferry fares added together.

Split Airport is only about 6 km from Trogir — a 10 to 15 minute taxi ride. Split itself is much further away. So it makes sense to treat Trogir as your real starting point, not as an afterthought. This does not help with a public catamaran, because passenger ferries all leave from the main port in Split, not from Trogir. But with a private boat, a pickup near Trogir or at a marina close to the airport cuts out the Split-port leg completely. No shuttle, no taxi queue, straight out to sea. Most public-transport guides do not mention this.

The shuttle bus usually runs even at odd hours, because it follows the flight arrivals. But the ferries and catamarans do not. They follow a fixed daily timetable, and it does not change for your plane. A 22:00 landing might get you into Split on the shuttle without a problem. But the last boat may have left hours ago.

On paper, a Split Airport to the islands transfer looks simple: land, bus, boat, done. In real life, three things regularly break that plan.

Late or delayed flights that miss the last catamaran. This is the most common way a Split Airport to Hvar or Brač trip goes wrong. In July and August some catamarans to Hvar run late in the evening. In spring and autumn, the last departure is usually much earlier — often 19:00–20:30. A delayed flight or a slow passport queue can use up that margin in minutes. Miss the boat, and you either pay for an unplanned night in Split or wait for the first sailing tomorrow.

Connections that simply do not fit together. Even without a delay, the shuttle bus, the walk to the port and the ferry’s boarding cut-off rarely line up. In peak season, boarding often closes 30–45 minutes before departure, because your ticket is also your seat reservation. Say the shuttle reaches the bus station at 18:35, but boarding closed at 18:30. You have missed the boat, even if you are “only five minutes late”.

Underestimating the airport-to-port leg. Because the airport is not in Split, people plan around their landing time. They forget the 30–40 minutes it takes to leave the plane, collect bags and reach the quay — before they have boarded anything.

A closed-cabin private boat solves all three problems at once. It waits for your real flight, not a printed timetable. It can often still sail in sea conditions that stop the fast public catamarans.
